Trip to South Ethiopia

Visit the tribe of Omo valley in three days with our package: Trip to south Ethiopia.

Day 1

Drive to Jinka, visiting various peoples such as the Gamo and Derashe. Stop at Key Afar’s weekly market (if on a Thursday) and wander among the various tribes such as the Benna and Ari that have gathered to barter their goods. Overnight  inka eco lodge

Day 2

Early morning drive to visit the Mursi tribe, a minority people living in the Lower Omo Valley. The Mursi tribe is well known for their clay lip-plates. Mostly, after harvesting season (Nov, Dec, Jan) you may see “Donga” stick fighting.

A drive from Jinka to Mago then to Mursi village and back is amongst some of the most beautiful scenery due to high hills, mountains, and white grass plains. If today is Saturday, we will have a chance to visit the Dimeka Market where the Hamer and Karo Tribal people attend. In the afternoon a visit to a Hamer village is one of the fantastic experiences, and eventually you may experience a wonderful ceremony of “Bull Jumping” which usually takes half a day starting from a ritual ceremony of wipping the girls’ backs with sticks by boys of the same family.

Overnight hotel in Turmi buska lodge (high budget) camp at the village or turmi lodge camp (very cheap)

Day 3

After breakfast, depart from Jinka to Arba Minch via Key Afar and Konso.  Thursday is market day in Key Afar, where you will see the Benna and Tsemai tribes trading goods.  This is another very popular market in the region.  After the visit, proceed to Konso (market days are Mondays and Thursdays).  The Konso people are known for their wooden statues, known as wakas, which are erected in honor of dead heroes as well as their innovative agricultural terracing.  Today you will have a brief opportunity to visit a local village and the cultural museum displaying many waka statues.  After the visit, proceed driving to Arba Minch. Flight to Addis Ababa
